HENRY C. LUCAS, III is a partner and co-founding member of LUCAS
AND
CAVALIER, LLC.
He is admitted to practice in the state and federal courts
throughout Pennsylvania including the Third Circuit Court of
Appeals. Prior
to starting the firm he was a partner at Rawle and Henderson
and special counsel for Duane Morris and Hecksher, both in
Philadelphia,
Pennsylvania.
Mr. Lucas received his B.S. in economics from the
Wharton School of Finance and Commerce at the University of Pennsylvania,
and his J.D. from the Villanova University School of Law in
1960.
Mr. Lucas has over forty (40) years experience in all
aspects of the shipping maritime/admiralty practice, and has
represented and advised various marine entities in cargo
shipping loss/contamination claims; collision, general
average, salvage and personal injury/death matters;
shipping/coast guard regulatory matters; environmental
claims including oil pollution; NVOCC, Ocean and Surface
Freight Forwarders in connection with international
intermodal carriage of goods; pleasure/recreational craft
casualties and commercial transactions/financing/litigation;
ship sales, charter party, and repairs; ship finance,
mortgage documentation including foreclosure and judicial
sales; towage and pilotage.
Consistent with this practice concentration, Mr.
Lucas is well experienced in the fields of international
trade, transactions, customs, immigration and arbitration.
Mr. Lucas is fully versed and knowledgeable with all aspects
of marine insurance – including Hull, Protection and
Indemnity (P&I) and cargo policies.
In addition Mr. Lucas’ practice extends to
disputes/litigation involving E&O, D&O, CGL and P&C
policies.
Mr. Lucas has been an associate editor of American
Maritime Cases from 1994 to the present, and has been
included in the Best Lawyers in America since 1989.
He has written extensively on maritime and admiralty
issues, and in 2004 was elected to membership in the
National Advisory Board of The Admiralty Law Institute -
Tulane University School of Law.
Mr. Lucas served as President of the Board of School
Directors for
Lower
Merion School
District from 1978-1979, and is
proficient in school law, with a concentration in public
employment labor relations.
More recently, Mr. Lucas’ practice has also centered
on products liability, creditors rights, fraudulent
transfers and non-marine commercial insurance
defense/recovery.
He is a member of the Maritime Law Association of USA
(1963 – Present; Executive Committee, 1987-1990); U.S.
Association of Average Adjusters (1965 – Present); British
Association of Average Adjusters (1982 – Present);
Federation of Defense and Corporate Counsel (FDCC) (1987 –
Present); Pennsylvania Bar Association; and U.S. ARIAS (AIDA
Reinsurance and Insurance Arbitration Society).
As a member of U.S. ARIAS Mr. Lucas has holds the status of
a certified arbitrator, which includes extensive
familiarization with and use of mediation in ADR process.
